English Grading Policies - Miss Wasco
It is important to note that your grade is split up into different categories! If you are not completing any homework whatsoever, you have a zero for 25% of your grade (meaning the highest grade you can receive is a 75%). Doing well on a test or a quiz, in this case, will NOT raise your grade past this point. You will need to add credit to the homework portion of your grade in order to see your grade rise. Additionally, if you have a 100% as a quiz average and you score a 90% on the next quiz, although this is an excellent score, you will notice that your overall grade goes down. Please see me with any questions you have about your grades and I will be happy to explain :)
- Do Now terms and SAT words are given daily and also posted on the website. After a class has accumulated ten do nows and ten vocabulary words, there will be a review due and a possible in-class quiz. The review will be on Quizlet.com and each student will be responsible for completing all six of the review activities on a computer, cell phone, tablet, etc. before the due date. Completing all activities receives an A; 5 = B; 4 = C; 3 = D; 2 = F; 1 or 0 = no credit given at all. The quizzes will be twenty multiple choice questions. Not having created a login for Quizlet is not an excuse for not completing the assignment -- the creation of the account was homework on the first week of school.
- Larger writing assignments that need to be typed mainly count as test grades. Anything typed should be printed, formatted in MLA format, and handed in on time. Please see my website link "MLA Format" for information on how to format your paper in this way. Typed assignments will need to be printed out before class; it is not my responsibility to print out 180 assignments before grading them. Students have access to school computers before and after school, at lunch, and during select times of other classes as well as looking to friends or a public library for assistance. Test grade assignments not turned in on time will lose 10 points per day up to three days late. After three days pass, the assignment will be a zero.
- Class participation grades can be given at any time for work that should be completed in class, ie: note taking, collaborative discussion notes, etc. These grades are classwork and therefore cannot be turned in late.
- Shorter, less critical writing assignments may be graded on a checks system. Full credit of an A-equivalent will be given with checkplus, a B-equivalent with check, a C-equivalent with checkminus, and an F-equivalent with checkminusminus.
- Reading checks can count as a homework grade if given on the previous night's assigned reading or as a quiz grade if the assessment covers questions previously discussed in class. These may be announced or unannounced.
- Due to the large number of students in my class and the time it takes to grade entire class sets of work, most written assignments will not be able to be resubmitted for additional credit unless it is part of a larger class activity. Please see me if you have a particularly special circumstance and we can discuss it.
