Another school in the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools district, the Middlesex County Academy for Allied Health and Biomedical Sciences in Woodbridge, was ranked 21st in the nation. Both schools are among the top 10 in New Jersey.

 

The Newsweek rankings are based on college readiness, taking into account graduation rates, state assessments, and SAT and ACT scores. Both the Edison Academy and the Woodbridge Academy scored 100 percent in both graduation rate and college attendance. Both MCVTS academies scored 100 percent proficiency on state assessment tests in math and language arts.

 

“We couldn’t be prouder of all our students,” said Superintendent of Schools Brian J. Loughlin. “And, of course, it takes a team effort by faculty, staff and administration to produce such stellar results.”

 

Earlier this year, three MCVTS schools were recognized by U.S. News and World Report in its ranking of the best public high schools in the United States. The Edison Academy received a gold medal for the third consecutive year, ranking ninth among New Jersey public high schools and 165th nationally. The Woodbridge Academy received silver-medal recognition, ranking 37th among New Jersey high schools. Perth Amboy Vo-Tech was awarded a bronze medal for the first time.

 

All three of the schools have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence – Perth Amboy Vo-Tech in 2012, the Edison Academy in 2013, and the Woodbridge Academy in 2014.

 

The Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School District, the first full-time county vocational school district in the nation, has seven schools on five campuses, including East Brunswick and Piscataway. The East Brunswick Campus was named a National Green Ribbon School in recognition of its “green” curriculum and sustainable building management practices.
