Rising Juniors!

For your summer reading assignment 2024, please choose TWO books from the three titles listed:

To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee
A Gathering of Old Men, by Ernest Gaines
Sycamore Row, by John Grisham

Read your two chosen books before we return to school on September 3. There's no project. Just read them. Keep a journal.  I’m not going to grade the journal, but it will help you keep up with characters and themes.  

There will be a test over the books when we return to school, or a paper, or both.  The score will have a significant impact on your first MP grade, so read carefully. Take notes on key plot events, character development, symbols, other rhetorical techniques, and all elements that combine to convey the big themes.  Become an expert on the book.

You can read all three books if you want, but you will only be assessed on two.

If you read To Kill a Mockingbird in Middle School, it's fine to read it again, as long as you read it carefully.
