Murder mystery dinner planned by students on Piscataway Campus

Diners can enjoy a gourmet meal and a professionally rendered thriller when the Piscataway Campus of the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools presents its first Murder Mystery Dinner.

Scheduled for Friday, May 19, at 7 p.m. at the North Stelton Volunteer Fire Co., 70 Haines Ave., Piscataway, the program will benefit the school’s Skills USA team.

A themed buffet dinner will be prepared by students in the award-winning Piscataway Campus culinary arts program, directed by Chef Thomas Povinelli. Baking students will provide dessert, and parents will be helping with tickets, door prizes and raffles.

“We’re raising money for our state and national competitions and for our leadership conferences throughout the year,” said Povinelli, who is adviser to the student organization. He said the conferences help prepare students for leadership positions.

A professional production company has been hired to perform the “whodunit,” which will involve audience participation.

The Piscataway Campus culinary arts team earned silver and bronze medals at the 2017 American Culinary Federation Winterfest in Point Pleasant and also medaled twice at the Sussex County Champion of the Grill competition. It is an annual participant in the “A Taste of Piscataway” fundraiser. Graduates attend institutions such as the Culinary Institute of America and Johnson & Wales University.
