Student works on display at annual MCVTS film festival May 4-5

The third annual Reel Film Festival, featuring student works, will take place Thursday and Friday, May 4 and 5, in the auditorium on the East Brunswick Campus of the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools.

Films, videos, photography and audio presentations by 46 digital film students in the MCVTS School of the Arts will be featured.

“The festival has grown tremendously,” film instructor Louis Libitz said, and will include a two-hour program of student films, as well as projection of films on a 7-by-10-foot screen in the lobby, a photography exhibit, and headphones to listen to student-composed soundtracks and audio effects.

More than 60 works by students from freshmen to seniors will be presented, Libitz said, and students will perform original music during intermission.

Awards in categories mimicking the Academy Awards will be presented on May 5.

The festival doors will open at 6:30 each evening. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

MCVTS film students have been receiving recognition at area festivals, with works by seniors Ben DeSimone and Jasmine Gutierrez accepted for the Project FX student festival at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, and those two and a film by senior Rosalia Richter accepted for the Kent Place School festival in Summit.

MCVTS student films are available on Vimeo and YouTube and at digitalfilmmcvts.com.

The MCVTS School of the Arts offers career majors in theater, dance, digital filmmaking, graphic design/commercial art and illustration, and multimedia art and design.
