Adult cosmetology classes begin in September on 2 MCVTS campuses

Adults interested in careers in cosmetology still have time to register for the fall sessions on the East Brunswick and Piscataway campuses of the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools.

Classes, which begin Sept. 6, are held Monday to Friday on each campus: noon to 6:30 p.m. or 3:30 to 10 p.m. in East Brunswick; 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Piscataway. Students must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.

Dawn Lystad, MCVTS director of adult education, said the tuition is affordable and graduates have a better than 95 percent passing rate on the licensing exams of the state Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling. The course trains students to work in hair salons, spas, and in related areas, such as the entertainment industry.

The second step toward earning a cosmetology license is passing the state board exam, which covers basic sanitation, hairstyling, and ethical skills, as well as rules, regulations and laws related to cosmetology, all of which will have been covered in the MCVTS cosmetology curriculum.

For information, call the East Brunswick Campus at (732) 254-8700, Ext. 1815, or the Piscataway Campus at (732) 985-0717, Ext. 2207 or 2208.

The MCVTS Adult School also offers a day program in practical nursing, and certificate programs in automotive technology; electrical technology; heating, ventilation and air conditioning technology, and plumbing technology, as well as apprentice training in business and office occupations, construction trades and manufacturing industries, and customized training that can be developed to meet the needs of employers.
