MCVTS named to AP national honor roll
The Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School District has been named to the AP Honor Roll by the College Board in recognition of the increasing number of its students taking advanced-placement courses and the percentage of students passing AP exams.
MCVTS is among 250 districts in the U.S. and Canada to be placed on the 10th annual Honor Roll.
AP exams allow students to earn college credit while still in high school. MCVTS offers AP courses at the Middlesex County Academy for Science, Mathematics and Engineering Technologies in Edison, the Middlesex County Academy for Allied Health and Biomedical Sciences in Woodbridge and East Brunswick Tech.
“We are very proud of our district’s designation – it’s a source of pride for all our staff,” Superintendent of Schools Dianne D. Veilleux said. “The AP program provides our students with a benchmark to test their skills at the post-secondary level.”
Assistant Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey Bicsko said the district plans to expand its AP offerings to its other two campuses, in Perth Amboy and Piscataway, in the 2020-2021 school year.
“We’re proud of our AP offerings,” Bicsko said. “It enhances what we give our students – true college and career readiness.
“This year, we instituted the AP online application process, which makes it easier for parents to register their students,” he added.
“With more students participating and succeeding in AP in this district, more students are getting a head start on college by earning college credit during high school,” said Trevor Packer, senior vice president of AP and instruction at the College Board. “We are pleased to honor the teachers and administrators who have worked to clear a path for more students of all backgrounds to advance through AP.”
In 2019, more than 4,000 colleges and universities around the world received AP scores for college credit, advanced placement, or both, or consideration in the admissions process. Inclusion in the 10th Annual AP District Honor Roll is based on a review of three years of AP data, from 2017 to 2019, looking across 38 AP exams.
The Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School District is the first full-time county vocational school district in the nation, offering 34 career majors.
