Jaylene Gardener, a senior from Carteret, was one of ten students to receive the New Jersey Governor’s Award for Exceptional Artistry and Community Leadership in Dance.
Danielle Zur, a junior from Woodbridge, was a recipient of the Dance New Jersey/National Honor Society for Dance Arts Award for Merit, Leadership, and Academic Achievement.
Both are students of Cleo Mack in the School of the Arts at East Brunswick Magnet School.
“We are really proud of both of the girls,” Ms. Mack said. “It’s a unique honor that both of them are from our school.
“They are both leaders in our chapter of the Honor Society and have excelled academically and artistically. They’re very good students.”
Jaylene volunteers at an arts center in Carteret, where she teaches painting to children, and also teaches at the dance studio where she studies in Sayreville. She will be seeking a bachelor of fine arts in dance at SUNY-Purchase and hopes to become a professional dancer.
Danielle is a volunteer teacher at her dance studio in Rahway and also volunteers at her church in Perth Amboy. She will be attending the NYU Tisch School’s prestigious summer program in the arts, which Jaylene attended previously.
