Applications for the 2024-25 school year now open!

MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ – Applications are now being accepted for eighth-graders to attend the Middlesex County Magnet Schools in the 2024-25 school year. The Magnet Schools are free public high schools open to all Middlesex County residents, offering more than 30 career majors and a rigorous academic curriculum.

“The Magnet Schools are an amazing resource for Middlesex County residents,” Superintendent of Schools Jorge E. Diaz said. “Our goal is to prepare our students to be the workforce of the future while broadening their horizons with a challenging academic program.”  

The application process can be started on the district’s website at www.mcmsnj.net/admissions.

The deadline to apply for Edison Academy Magnet School, which specializes in engineering, mathematics, science, and technology, and Woodbridge Academy Magnet School, which specializes in health and biomedical careers, is Nov. 22. An entrance examination and personal interviews are part of the process.

The deadline to apply for East Brunswick Magnet School, Perth Amboy Magnet School, and Piscataway Magnet School is April 1. Interviews are required, and School of the Arts majors require an audition.

“We interview the whole student,” Assistant Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey Bicsko said. “We’re looking for what their passion is, what their interests are.

“Grades are important, but they’re not the only thing,” he added. “We encourage students and parents to attend an open house.”

Open houses are scheduled at all five Magnet Schools. All are from 10 a.m. to noon unless otherwise noted:

  • Saturday, Oct. 14 — East Brunswick Magnet School and Woodbridge Academy Magnet School;
  • Saturday, Oct. 21, 9 a.m. to noon — Edison Academy Magnet School;
  • Saturday, Oct. 28 — Perth Amboy Magnet School;
  • Saturday, Nov. 18 — Piscataway Magnet School;
  • Saturday, Dec. 2 — East Brunswick Magnet School;
  • Saturday, Dec. 9 — Piscataway Magnet School;
  • Saturday, Dec. 16 — Perth Amboy Magnet School;
  • Saturday, Jan. 20 — East Brunswick Magnet School;
  • Saturday, Jan. 27 — Piscataway Magnet School;
  • Saturday, Feb. 3 — Perth Amboy Magnet School.

Transportation to the Magnet Schools is provided by students' local municipal public school districts where they reside. The Magnet Schools offer numerous extracurricular clubs and athletic teams.
