Agriscience Technology
Program of Study
Program instruction in floriculture,horticulture and hydroponics introduces students to a variety of career opportunities in the Agriscience industry. Students learn about plant germination, soil content, floral design, landscaping, greenhouse management, seed cultivation and the use of hand and power equipment and sales. They participate in the FFA student organization, which encourages leadership, citizenship,and entrepreneurship.
Graduates pursue advanced degrees or may be employed as greenhouse technicians, landscape contractors, design architects, interior plantscapes, floral designers, propagation workers, groundskeepers, nursery production workers or forester aides.
This program has postsecondary articulation with Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS)
Articulated postsecondary class titles include Plants and People, Issues and Concepts in Biotechnology and (coming soon) Science of Food

The Agriscience Technology Program offered at Middlesex County Vocational Technical High School is taught using the comprehensive CASE (Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education) Model. Using four full years of instruction, students finishing this course will have completed the Plant Pathways, offering articulation for some of the courses with local colleges. Core Content Curriculum Standards are fully addressed, aligning with the State Of NJ Career and Technical Education Standards.
The diversity of this course will prepare students for employment within the field of agriculture, from entrepreneurship to skilled trade, to college/research. During the Junior and senior year, the application of a Financial Literacy Business Plan is also incorporated, addressing the Educational Standards for 9.1: Financial Literacy.
The four courses taught include:
CASE AFNR: Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (Agriscience I – 9th Grade);
CASE ASP: Principles of Agricultural Science-Plant (Agriscience II – 10th Grade);
CASE APB: Animal and Plant Biotechnology (Agriscience III – 11th Grade);
CASE ARD / FINANCIAL LITERACY: Agricultural Research and Development Capstone Project/Business Plan (Agriscience IV – 12th Grade).
