Jan. 24 — New Year, New Developments at Middlesex County Magnet Schools! It seems as though we had just started the new school year … and now we are at the halfway mark. The news of so many wonderful developments in our district has helped time fly by pleasantly.

Magnet Schools film student earns national honor
Dec. 6 — Lamont Harris took up photography at the age of eight when his father handed him a camera. He is now a Middlesex County Magnet Schools junior, and his two-minute film “Flashbacks” was an official selection at the largest student film festival in the world and a nominee as Best Adventure/Travel Film by the Teen Indie Awards.

Nov. 1 — We have welcomed new faculty and administrators and, of course, our fabulous freshmen. Since our last newsletter, we have graduated 500 new alumni and expect great things from them. This newsletter will continue to keep all our constituents up to date on the achievements of our students, staff, and alumni.

Edison Academy senior wins district’s first-ever GMC championship
Oct. 6 — Manasi V., a senior member of the tennis team at Edison Academy Magnet School, won the first Greater Middlesex Conference individual championship in the history of the Middlesex County Magnet Schools held in Hamilton.

Oct. 11 — There were more than 1,800 applicants for the current school year, about a 15 percent increase over the previous year, with 575 students accepted. Apply for Middlesex County Magnet Schools online!

Sept. 26 — East Brunswick Magnet School junior Mari H. saw what the future of sustainability might look like during a three-week visit to Denmark over the summer with the Council on International Educational Exchange.

Edison Academy student is first female to win national math competition
Sept. 22 — Sargam M., a junior at the Edison Academy Magnet School, made history in a national high school math competition, coming in first among more than 1,600 competitors.

Upcoming events for Middlesex County NJ4S
Sept. 26 — Middlesex County is excited to co-host with Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care amazing awareness events to kick off the NJ Statewide Student Support Services (NJ4S) in our region. During the week of September 25, there will be a variety of informational programming for our entire community.

Student PSA: Deep Vein Thrombosis →
Sept. 20 — Shakthi Anand, an allied health student and long-time Girl Scout, explains the dangers of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and its increased risk with long-term travel. This crisis, affecting 900,000 Americans yearly, is only exacerbated by long-term travel because of prolonged immobility in a confined car, plane, train, or other modes of transport.

Amro Mosaad named principal of Edison Academy Magnet School
Sept. 15 — Amro Mosaad, who had served as acting principal since February, has been named principal of Middlesex County’s Edison Academy Magnet School. “It’s a dream place for an educator to work,” Mosaad said after his appointment. “The students love to learn and want to do great things."

Students receive scholarships at annual Middlesex County Fair
Aug. 15 — During the Middlesex County Fair held from August 7 to August 13, recent alumni Samantha G. '23 and Bayane C. '23 were awarded $1,000 college scholarships for their excellent work as students at the Middlesex County Magnet Schools.
